MASTOID SURGERIES (CANAL WALL UP/DOWN)
Mastoid surgeries are procedures performed to treat diseases and conditions affecting the mastoid bone, which is located behind the ear and connected to the middle ear. The two main types of mastoid surgeries are canal wall up (CWU) and canal wall down (CWD). These surgeries are often performed to treat chronic ear infections, cholesteatoma, and other middle ear pathologies.
Indications
- Chronic otitis media (persistent middle ear infections).
- Cholesteatoma (abnormal skin growth in the middle ear).
- Mastoiditis (infection of the mastoid bone).
- Complications from ear infections such as hearing loss, dizziness, or facial nerve paralysis.
- Tympanomastoidectomy (combined surgery to address middle ear and mastoid issues).
